Pastor’s Letter, January, 2021« Back to Letters
2020 has been a year unlike any other. Many said, “Good riddance” to 2020 as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve. However, to the people of God, hopefully we’ve had eyes to see and acknowledge the many good things the Lord has done through a very difficult season. Why would we want to say “Good riddance,” then, to a year in which the Lord has helped us so much? That’s precisely the meaning of the word, “Ebenezer,” which is only used in relation to a story that is recorded in 1 Samuel 4-7. Literally means “stone of help,” and Samuel used the word to mark the spot where the Lord had helped His people. After a very difficult and tumultuous season, 1 Samuel 7:12 says, “Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.” Instead of bidding 2020 “Good riddance,” as we have come to the end of the year and the beginning of a new one, I want to invite you to let your declaration and testimony be, “Ebenezer–thus far the Lord has helped us!”
As pastor of Mentone Faith Chapel, I wish to invite you to participate by tuning in each Sunday at 10:00 am to Mentone Faith Chapel Facebook page or our YouTube Channel, also Mentone Faith Chapel. There is also a segment each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm entitled, “Something from the Sanctuary” to encourage you on your journey.
